How do I join the PTA?

Complete a Membership Form and return to school with your membership dues of $10.00 per member.  You can join online through our PTA Store or you can download a membership form and send it in with your child by clicking [update needed].


What is my membership fee used for?

Your membership fee helps to fund programs, events, and activities for the PTA.  While a portion of your membership fee is paid to the state PTA, a portion is retained at our school for programs that directly benefit the students at Sunset Valley.


How can I volunteer at school?

Volunteers need to renew their membership to the Sunset Valley PTA annually and must provide appropriate clearance documentation through the Norwin School District Raptor System.  Once your clearances are approved by the district you will need to get a Volunteer Badge. 


You may contact the PTA President or a Committee Chairperson to find out how you can help.  You can find their email address by clicking here or going to the Contacts page. Also be on the lookout for fliers, emails, Facebook posts, and text alerts for communication when extra help is needed.  Volunteers are needed all year long.

Why do I have to be a PTA member in order to volunteer?

The PTA purchases insurance to cover all PTA functions, so if you would like to help in the classroom or volunteer at an event (during or after school), you must be a PTA member.   

How do I get my clearances?

Act 34 - Criminal Background and Act 131 - Child Abuse background checks can be done online and are offered at NO COST for volunteers in the state of PA.  Links to complete clearances are:






FBI Fingerprinting is $27.00. Registration can be done at COGENT -

Only required for those who have not been a resident of PA for 10 continuous years.  If you have been a resident of PA for 10 continuous years, you must complete the waiver provided by the school.  Click here to access the waiver.

How do I get my clearances to the district?

For the 2023-2024 school year, Norwin School District is pleased to announce RAPTOR, as our online system that streamlines the acquisition, processing, tracking, and approving of background checks and clearances for District volunteers, volunteer coaches, club sponsors, and boosters. Establishing a Raptor account does not automatically get you the appropriate clearances and background checks. You must visit the appropriate website and obtain each clearance (SEE ABOVE FOR LINKS/INFORMATION ON OBTAINING CLEARANCES as well as tips on how to upload documents.) Once your Volunteer Account has been approved, you will receive an email confirmation.  PLEASE HAVE ALL THREE (3) REQUIRED CLEARANCES READY TO UPLOAD BEFORE BEGINNING YOUR RAPTOR APPLICATION.

How do I get my Volunteer Badge?

You will receive an email from the district when your clearances are accepted.  If it has been 2 weeks and you have not received an email, you can log into Raptor to verify if your clearances have been accepted.  If your status is marked "SEALED" then your clearances have been accepted. You can then go to the Technology Department to get your badge.  


The Technology Department is on the bottom floor of the administration building at: 281 McMahon Drive, North Huntingdon PA, 15642. Enter the building via door 3. It’s on the side of the building under the overhang. Ring the buzzer and state you are there to obtain a volunteer ID badge.


The technology department DOES NOT process clearances and background checks in Raptor. Secretaries in the school buildings do.

Tuesday and Thursday  7:45 am-11:30 am and 1:30 pm-3:30 pm

I can't find the PTA Facebook Group, how do I join it?

The Sunset Valley PTA Facebook Group is a private group on Facebook.  This is a Facebook term used to define groups that wish to remain completely private on Facebook.  The group cannot be searched and posts & comments will only show in the Newsfeed of other members.  They will not be visible to friends-of-friends.  To join the group, contact the PTA President at to be added.

How do I sign up for text and/or email reminders about events & activities?
